Irrigation

Irrigation on rock, thin soil, and salt

Rock does not stop at the Cohasset shoreline. Where it sits close to the surface of a yard, the soil above it is thin, dries out fast, and leaves little room for a trench. An irrigation system installation here starts with finding the rock: pipe routes and heads go around it, lawn over thin soil gets its own zones, and drip lines water the planted pockets between outcrops.

Along Jerusalem Road and Atlantic Avenue, houses face the open ocean. Wind pushes fine spray off target and salt settles on turf and shrubs, so heads near the water are picked and aimed to throw low and land on the grass instead of the drive or the rocks.

If your yard already has an older in-ground system, heads that lean, zones that no longer overlap, and brown strips over shallow soil are signs it needs sprinkler repair. A longer run time rarely fixes a coverage gap; it mostly sends water past the roots.

Who sets your watering rules
Most of Cohasset

The Cohasset Water Department draws on Lily Pond, the Aaron River Reservoir, and Ellms Meadow, and it can restrict outdoor watering when supplies run low.

North Cohasset

North Cohasset is on the Weir River Water System, owned by the Town of Hingham and shared with Hingham and Hull. It can limit or ban outdoor watering, lawn irrigation included, when storage runs low.

Rules are set by your water supplier and can change within a season, so set a smart controller or rain sensor to follow them.

Landscape lighting

Lighting for rock faces, old trees, and water views

A rock outcrop, a wide oak, and a view of the harbor all disappear at dusk unless something lights them. Our landscape lighting work uses low-voltage LED fixtures: uplighting on trunks and rock faces, soft light filtered down through a canopy, and path lights on walks and steps that cross uneven ground.

Salt spray is the hard part. Within sight of the ocean, fixtures and wire connections sit in wet, salty wind every day, so fixture materials, sealed connections, and the wire route get more care than they would inland. Ledge changes the wiring too, with cable routed through the soil that is there rather than straight across rock.

When older fixtures give out, Rainfall also handles outdoor lighting maintenance and repairs and halogen-to-LED conversions.

Under tall trees off Route 3A and out toward Beechwood, the drive, garage door, and back steps go dark early, and our outdoor lighting service covers security lighting for those spots. It also covers holiday lighting with commercial-grade LED lights that we design, install, maintain, remove, and store, so a roofline near the harbor is lit for the season without you on a ladder in the wind.

Ticks

Ticks at the Wompatuck tree line

Wompatuck State Park and Whitney and Thayer Woods cover much of the wooded land in southern Cohasset. Homes in Beechwood, near the Aaron River Reservoir and the park, often have lawn that runs straight into the trees, and deer ticks wait in the leaf litter and brush where the mowing stops. Mosquitoes add to it on summer evenings wherever water sits after rain, from a low corner of the lawn to a clogged gutter or a forgotten planter.

Rainfall installs MistAway mosquito and tick control systems that treat the perimeter of the yard, along the edges where pests come in.

Outdoor audio

Sound for a harbor-view deck

A deck that looks out over Cohasset Harbor or Little Harbor is a place people stay outside long after dinner, and outdoor audio brings sound to it.

Sound carries over open water, so speakers on the shore work best aimed toward the seating and split into zones. On a larger wooded lot, plantings and rock give speakers and subwoofers plenty of places to hide.

Certified installer

Rainfall is a certified installer of AmbiSonic and TruAudio luxury outdoor audio systems, including outdoor speakers and subwoofers.

Why Rainfall

Credentials for a yard on ledge

Ledge and salt air leave little room for guesswork. Rainfall’s technicians are licensed, and company leadership was formally trained through the UMass Stockbridge School of Agriculture. That turf and irrigation grounding is what a thin lawn over rock needs, because the fix is usually in the layout and the schedule, not in more water.

Ryan was courteous, knowledgeable, and took the time to resolve our issues. He also evaluated the entire system and recommended improvements that could increase performance and efficiency. We were very satisfied with his work.
